We are urban. We are Southern. We are diverse.
Open Door was intentionally founded as a diverse, multi-cultural church at a time when race mixing was still under debate within the body of Christ. We welcome all as we are one in Christ.
As a Christian community following the way of Jesus and called to the work of peace and justice, we invite you to join us around God’s table. We affirm that people of any race, ethnic identity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, economic status, or life situation are welcome, valued, and invited to full participation in the life of the congregation.
Things like hospitality, faith, family, and community are deeply embedded in our DNA. We look forward to meeting you!
What should I wear?
We dress pretty casually at Open Door, but if dressing up is your thing, feel free!
When do you start?
When we are meeting in person, worship starts at 11:00 AM on Sunday mornings, and is generally over by 12:00 PM. During this time of COVID precautions, however, we are meeting virtually via Zoom on Sunday mornings at 10:30AM CST for fellowship and discussion of the sermon, which is posted every Sunday morning to our Facebook page.
What is a Mennonite? Are you guys Amish?
We aren’t Amish, but we are both parts of the same stream of Christianity called “Anabaptists”, a group that emerged during the Protestant Reformation in the 15th Century. We are similar to a lot of Protestant churches, with a few things that stand out, like believer’s baptism, the priesthood of all believers, and a commitment to nonviolence.
We are members of the Gulf-States Conference and the larger Mennonite Church USA
